With our cellist, Franki Lemon, touring with her orchestra, now is a great time to explore ambient listening.
Ambient electronica has long been a passion of mine, though in recent years it’s been on the back-burner. This week was a great opportunity to dive back into my collection and come up with some acoustics to accompany the intensely relaxing yet energizing practice of yin yoga. My playlist on Friday was Brian Eno’s Music for Airports sandwiched by a trio of my favourite tracks from Global Communication’s seminal 76:14. I remember ordering 76:14 on CD while living in Kingston sometime in the mid-90s. I waited over six months for that rare beast to arrive at the music store (they were made of bricks and mortar then, not bits & bytes) and when it finally arrived I listened to it daily for months. I loved practising with these old friends.
What would you like to hear next Friday? The Black Dog? Aphex Twin? Higher Intelligence Agency? Steve Roach? Suggestions?
