Offered by Dr. Rami Nijjar, Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 8-week, training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Mindfulness and compassion have often been described as two wings of a bird – we need both to soar. Mindfulness teaches us to turn toward and acknowledge our experience with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to any difficulties that arise with kindness, warmth and understanding. Being both mindful and compassionate leads to greater ease and well-being in our daily lives.

Dr. Rami Nijjar is a clinical psychologist and sex therapist with over 10 years of experience. Her clients have described her as a kind, intelligent, and patient therapist who provides a safe space for them to navigate their life challenges. Rami has always had a keen interest in the relationships that form our lives how they develop, how they shape our behaviors and views, how they can help or hinder our wellbeing.
In her current practice, Rami works with individuals and couples to help manage stress and relate better to themselves and to one another. As a therapist, Rami often uses mindfulness and acceptance based practices and has trained with Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer on the use of Mindful Self Compassion (MSC), a practice which helps people overcome the tendency to be hard on themselves, helps build self acceptance in the face of unmanageable stress, and promotes resilience. Alongside her private practice, Rami runs mindfulness based groups for women experiencing low sexual desire and those suffering from vulvodynia. She also enjoys teaching and holds clinical instructor positions at Adler University and within the UBC Sexual Medicine department.
